Tesla Cybertruck Range Extender Is an Even Worse Deal

Tesla has delayed the release of a range extender for the Cybertruck and reduced the range it will add to the dual-motor version of the truck, as noted Electrek. The reduced range and latency is another reason why the Cybertruck, which has seen some big changes since it was first announced, has had trouble living up to its hype.

Tesla previously said the range extender, which will take up a significant portion of the Cybertruck’s bed space, will give the dual-motor Cybertruck approximately 470 miles of range.

But the company has since lowered that estimate by 25 miles, saying the extender gives an estimated range of 445 miles. (Without the extender, Tesla says the Cybertruck will have a range of 325 miles.)

Tesla still claims the tri-motor Cyberbeast will be able to travel about 440 miles with the extender if you get the stock tires.

Tesla also says the range extender will be available in mid-2025, later than the original early 2025 window. Electrek reports. The extender has an estimated cost of $16,000 and must be installed at a Tesla service center, according to the Cybertruck website.
