‘They think they’re rock stars’: Ex-NRL player slams Broncos culture

Recently retired NRL player Aaron Woods has criticized the Brisbane Broncos culture, saying some players “think they’re rock stars”.

His comments come amid an off-field incident involving star playmaker Ezra Mom.

Mam, 21, was involved in a car accident on Friday where it was discovered that he was driving without a license.

He also allegedly failed a roadside drug test, with further testing still being carried out by police.

Woods, who played 14 seasons in the NRL, criticized the attitude of Brisbane players, including Mam.

He also called on new coach Michael “Madge” Maguire to step in and create a more professional culture.

“I went on the Brisbane Broncos page the other day… at the end of season awards everyone wears suits and he (Ma’am) wears this tank top suit,” Woods said in the interview. Rush hour Triple M.

“This is where Madge has to get these guys under control (sic).

“Big Broncos fan, great players, good young guys coming through the system. But they think they’re rock stars.”

“You have to calm down, we are rugby league players.

“At the end of the day, you are nothing more than what the game is.

“The game made you, so how about you come back and do something good for the game?

“They give the game a bit of a bad name in these areas… you’re letting down not just your club but the whole football community.”

Woods also believes the Broncos will want to keep Mam at the club, despite calls for the midfielder to be terminated from his contract.

“I don’t think they (the Broncos) will want to let him go because I don’t think they want him to play for another jersey,” he added.

“They know that some club will buy him cheap because of an indiscretion that happened.

“I suspect he will receive a large fine and a hefty ban for next season.”
