    Elijah Wu’s mother, Katrina Baur, has waived her right to a preliminary hearing, while Jessie Wang’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 24.

    MANITOWOC — Katrina B. Baur, the mother of 3-year-old Elijah View, and Jessie Wang made their first court appearance Monday on new charges that they were responsible for Elijah’s death and the concealment of his body.

    Baur was represented by attorney Amber Gratz and waived her right to a preliminary hearing. Her next court date is an arraignment on Oct. 30.

    Wang was temporarily represented by attorney Luke Harrison, but is still awaiting the appointment of a public defender in his case. The next court date is a preliminary hearing on Oct. 24.

    Both cases are being prosecuted by District Attorney Jacqualyn Labre, with Division 4 District Court Judge Anthony Lambrecht presiding.

    Baur and Wang were previously charged with child neglect in connection with Elijah’s disappearance in February. Those charges were dropped Monday ahead of their court appearance.

    New charges were filed on October 17, and both attended a bail hearing the next day. Wang now faces charges of physical abuse of a child resulting in death, concealing a corpse and obstructing an officer. He is being held on $500,000 bail.

    If Wang is found guilty of Elijah’s death, he faces spending the rest of his life in prison.

    Baur is charged with chronic child neglect resulting in death, child neglect and two counts of obstructing an officer. She is being held on $400,000 cash bail.

    Vang reported Elijah missing on February 20th. After nearly seven months of searching by law enforcement and the public, the boy’s remains were found Sept. 7 on private property, a little more than 3 miles from Wang’s apartment in Two Rivers, next to the home where Baur once lived. live with Elijah.

    The new charges against Wang and Baur were announced Oct. 17 during a news conference with the Two Rivers Police Department and Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacqualine Labre.

    According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement discovered a suitcase that Wang gave to St. Vincent de Paul on Feb. 19 that contained Elijah’s DNA. They also found Elijah’s blanket in the woods near Johnston Drive and Goodwin Road near Two Rivers just days after Elijah was reported missing.

    The complaint also said Elijah’s remains showed signs of head injuries that were partially healed and occurred at least several weeks before Elijah’s death.

    The Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Elijah’s cause of death was “homicide by unknown means,” the complaint states.
