Scottish town ‘packed with culture’ named one of the best places to live in the UK

A Scottish city “packed with culture” has been named one of the best places to live in the whole of the UK by a renowned travel guide.

Perth, which was named alongside other places such as Ledbury in Herefordshire and Newport in Pembrokeshire, has been called the “gateway to the Highlands and Islands” and has been praised for its rich history.

The Muddy Stilettos guide outlined the various shopping opportunities on offer, as well as the many food and drink options available to visitors and residents.

The area is home to many castles, battlefields, museums and historical sites, including the famous Scone Palace.

Speaking about the iconic site near Perth, the guide said this “historic coronation site of Scottish kings” is surrounded by “stunning gardens” and even a rare Highland Coo.

Perth’s shopping environment was described as “eclectic”, with “the usual high street suspects” standing alongside a range of independent retailers.

These include the Tayberry Gallery, which is a “favorite spot for artistic finds,” and Boo Vake, a “colorful gallery and store” selling jewelry and accessories.

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, Perth has you covered: the Scottish city was named the inaugural winner of Scotland’s Food Town award in 2018.

The guide says it is “renowned for a mouth-watering selection of cafes, restaurants, tearooms, award-winning chefs and the Perth Farmers’ Market.”

Muddy Stilettos added that “the gastronomic qualities extend throughout the region, from world-class restaurants to simple and healthy street food.”

The Bean Shop is said to be ideal if you want an “artisan caffeine fix”, with 63 Tay Street offering Michelin-recommended dining and “stunning views” of the River Tay.
