DBKL demolishes illegal buildings throughout the city

KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is aggressively ridding the capital of illegal buildings, with at least four enforcement operations carried out on Wednesday (Oct 23).

In a series of social media posts, DBKL said structures at Taman Batu Muda and Jalan Klang Lama had been demolished.

“The structure was erected on a road reserve area. The demolition was carried out after the owner did not comply with DBKL’s order to stop work,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, buildings on Jalan Klang Lam, consisting of six adjoining premises built next to a retention pond, were also demolished.

“It was demolished in accordance with the Streets, Drainage and Building Act 1974,” DBKL said.

DBKL also deployed enforcement teams to check traders operating along Jalan Ampang, Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Bukit Bintang.

The department said there had been complaints about traders placing their goods on pedestrian crossings, which created obstacles.

Items such as clothes hangers, drinks cans and polystyrene containers were confiscated during the operation.

In Batu Parliamentary Constituency, action was taken against six traders for obstruction.

According to DBKL, they committed an offense under the Hawkers Licensing (WPKL) Regulations 2016.

“All the goods were sent to the DBKL store at Jalan Lombong in Taman Miharje, Cheras for documentation.

“Inspections and monitoring will continue in all 11 parliamentary constituencies in Kuala Lumpur,” DBKL said.

These operations are part of DBKL’s wider program to clear public areas of illegal structures and obstructions.
