Lewis Hamilton's inconsistent form won't stop Ferrari: 'They can't wait to get him'

Ted Kravitz has shrugged off any potential concerns Ferrari may have over Lewis Hamilton’s failed Formula One campaign in 2024.

Despite Hamilton ending his long winning drought on home soil at Silverstone earlier this year, it has been a disappointing campaign for the seven-time world champion.

Mercedes has remained inconsistent in 2024, with last weekend’s US Grand Prix another challenging race for the team.

Hamilton crashed out of the race in the opening laps as Toto Wolff blamed the car rather than driver error.

George Russell made a similar mistake in qualifying, crashing out in Q3, forcing him to start from the pit lane due to a parts shortage.

Hamilton will join Ferrari in 2025, and on paper it looks like the right decision given that the Scuderia is fighting for the Constructors’ Championship.

However, Kravitz believes that regardless of Hamilton’s personal form or Ferrari’s results on track, both parties are excited to get started in 2025.

“Even if Ferrari weren’t winning races, he would have thought it wasn’t (the wrong decision),” he said on the Sky F1 podcast.

“Everything changes from race to race, doesn’t it? You can tell when Mercedes had a great Grand Prix and Ferrari (not). There are races that Ferrari are not very good at, but Mercedes.

“You think Lewis might be thinking about what’s going on at Ferrari. And the same thing: if you’re Ferrari, you watch a race where Lewis gets shocked and you might think, “What’s going on with Lewis.”

“Lewis is doing fantastic in the next race and Ferrari will think we have won, we have a winner.

“It’s all good. Look, I don’t think they’re worried about it. Lewis can’t wait to get started at Ferrari – he says that at press conferences when we ask him about it. Ferrari can’t wait to get him. Everyone OK, they’re looking forward to it.”

It is not yet known when Hamilton will make his first official appearance at Ferrari after the BBC reported that Mercedes will not allow him to test after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December.
