‘New, Improved, Evolved’: Revised plan will keep rest of Hawthorn Shopping Center intact

The next step in the comprehensive transformation of Hawthorn Shopping Center in Vernon Hills aims to build on the success of the original work while preserving what remains of the existing 1970s shopping center intact. The revised concept will retain 130,000 square feet of existing space in the center of the mall, which was to be demolished in previous plans.

Indoor golf simulator to open this month in Arlington Heights

With a liquor license in place and building upgrades nearly completed, funded in part by increased county tax revenue, a long-planned golf simulator facility will open in Arlington Heights by the end of the month. Golf VX will have a dozen golf courses and a restaurant/bar with a robot bartender. It will be located in a large 12,000 square foot box office at 644 E. Rand Road in the Southpoint Shopping Centre.

Libertyville Greek-themed restaurant coming to West Side Ramen

Owners say their revamped Mediterranean cuisine at Chrissoulas in downtown Libertyville has been well received. But six years later, the Dimitriou brothers are changing the menu forever. Nick and Theo Dimitriou aren’t going anywhere, and for a few days this month, the interior of the Greek-themed restaurant Chrissoulas at 602 N. Milwaukee Ave. will be transformed into West Side Ramen.

True Value Company Enters into Purchase Agreement and Initiates Chapter 11 Proceedings

Chicago-based True Value Company, LLC, a leading hardware and durable goods wholesaler, has entered into an agreement to sell substantially all of its operations to peers in the home improvement industry. In connection with the sale, True Value and certain of its subsidiaries commenced voluntary Chapter 11 proceedings in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

Could changes to downtown zoning ordinances help Elgin attract new businesses?

The City of Elgin hopes updates to its downtown zoning ordinances will help attract new businesses while providing flexibility for those already there. The City Council unanimously approved four amendments to the downtown code. The changes, aimed at eliminating unnecessary delays and lowering application fees for new businesses, are a collaboration between the city and the Downtown Neighborhood Association.

Wood-fired pizza and handmade pasta coming soon to downtown Aurora

The aroma of wood-fired pizza will soon waft through the historic Hobbs Building in downtown Aurora. Giardino Trattoria and Pizzeria will open this fall, promising a garden atmosphere to match its name. The restaurant at 12 N. River St. is a couple doors down from the Leilani Asian Fusion Hotel. Both are part of the JH Hospitality Group.
