Briefly about the news of the Far North: Chess champions; missing child found; Boogie Circus; and government road works

A police spokesman said the child went missing from the home around 3:40 p.m. A search involving whānau and emergency services began immediately and searchers found the child in the Awanui River shortly before 5pm.

“Despite all the efforts of rescuers, the child died. This is an absolutely tragic outcome and support is being provided to whānau,” police said. They thanked everyone who helped in the search.

The boogie circus is coming

Ian Preston’s Boogie Circus is coming to Northland for two shows. Preston and her husband, percussionist Mike Pullman, will perform at the Black Box Theater in Kerikeri on October 25 from 7.30pm to 9.45pm. They will also perform at the Riverbank Centre, Reyburn House Lane, Whangarei on October 26 from 7.30pm to 9.45pm. The concerts are part of the duo’s tour in support of Preston’s latest release. Piano Countrycelebrating her 50th birthday as a public performer. Tickets for Kerikeri can be purchased through Eventfinda or in person at The Soundlounge music store on Kerikeri Road.

SH11 works

New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi has been carrying out overnight road repair work on State Highway 11 Paihia, between MacMurray Rd and Te Kemara Ave, since November 3. Work will take place from 21:00 to 5:00. SH11 Seaview Rd between MacMurray and Kings Rds will be closed overnight from 3rd to 5th November. There will be a short detour through McMurray and Kings Roads.

From November 5 to 8, work will take place on Marsden Road between Kings Road and Paihia Wharf, with the introduction of a stop and go system. There will be no work on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Work will resume on November 10 between School Street and Te Kemara Avenue with the introduction of a stop-and-go traffic control system and is expected to be completed by Friday, November 14. Access for residents and emergency services will be ensured throughout the work period.
