A driver has been charged with drink driving in a crash that killed a motorcyclist in Melbourne, police say.

MELBOURNE, FL. – A driver faces multiple drunk driving charges after police say they hit and killed a motorcyclist before leaving the scene of a crash Saturday, according to a news release.

Melbourne police said they responded to the area of ​​Lake Washington Road and North Harbor City Boulevard around 11:57 p.m. to a collision involving a car and a motorcycle.

According to the report, the initial investigation revealed that a Nissan Maxima was turning right onto southbound North Harbor City Boulevard from eastbound Lake Washington Road when a Yamaha motorcycle collided with a vehicle.

Police said the Maxima, driven by 36-year-old Tae Schroeder, left the scene of the crash before being found “a short distance away.”

According to the report, Schroeder was found leaving the area near where the vehicle was found.

“Probable cause for the arrest of the driver of the Nissan has been established,” police said. “There are indications that alcohol/drugs were a factor in the crash.”

Schroeder was placed under arrest and faces charges of driving while intoxicated, DUI manslaughter, damaging property while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury or death, the press release said.
