Catherine Bryce will give the Hurricanes some Scottish flair!

For the first time in Hobart Hurricanes history, the Canes are using the WBBL Associate Player Rule to welcome Scotland captain Catherine Brice to their roster in WBBL|10.

As per the rule, WBBL teams can sign one player from outside their allotted team from any of the ICC Cricket Associate Nations that include Scotland.

Bryce is a familiar name to many Tasmanians as he dominated the Tasmanian Cricket Premier League season for New Town CC last season.

She’s looking forward to being around the Hurricanes team again.

“I’m so excited to be heading to Australia to play for the Hurricanes in the WBBL.

The last 12 months have been an incredible experience playing some of my best cricket and I am keen to carry that form into a great tournament like the WBBL.

I am grateful to everyone in my home team in the UK and Cricket Scotland for their continued support in my development.– said Bryce.

A talented all-rounder with a batting average of 37.44 in the Women’s T20 International and a bowling average of 15.14, Bryce will be another talented player for the Hurricanes.

At 26 years old, she still has a lot of development to do in her game and although she is yet to make her WBBL debut, she won’t be afraid of the moment, having done so on the biggest stage so recently. ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai.

She batted at number three in her four matches and became the first bowling change for a Scottish team that had not won a game, but Bryce remained one of the most consistent bowlers in her team.

Hobart Hurricanes head coach Jude Coleman spoke about Bryce’s inclusion in the Hurricanes’ WBBL|10 roster.

“We are delighted to have Katherine Bryce join us as a junior player after spending the last two summers training in Hobart with the Tigers and Hurricanes.

“Brycie’s all-round ability is a huge addition to our team and we look forward to her first WBBL appearance.” Coleman said.

Following Katherine Brice’s announcement, the Hurricanes have 16 players in their squad as they prepare for their first match against the Sydney Thunder next Monday.

Bryce is joined by Nicola Carey, Zoe Cook, Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Liesel Lee (o/c), Tabatha Saville, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Amy Smith, Lauren Smith, Molly Strano, Rachel Trenaman, Chloe Tryon (o/c) , Elise Villani, Callie Wilson and Danny Wyatt-Hodge (O/C), who will be replaced by Susie Bates.

WBBL|10 is just six days away from Hobart’s first game against Sydney Thunder at Bellerive Oval on October 28.
