Cabinet reshuffle: new Tasmanian government sworn in

Tasmania’s new government was officially sworn in at Government House in Hobart by Governor Barbara Baker.

Following a cabinet reshuffle following the resignations of ministers Michael Ferguson and Nick Street, Deputy Prime Minister Guy Barnett took on the role of Treasurer.

Barnett will also retain his posts as attorney general and attorney general.

Jacqui Petrusma and Kerry Vincent are two new faces in the cabinet: Petrusma, a registered nurse with responsibility for health, Aboriginal and veterans affairs, and former mayor Sorella Vincent, who oversees infrastructure and local government.

Prime Minister Jeremy Rockliffe will retain his tourism, trade and major investment portfolios, while Nick Duigan will retain his energy, renewables and parks portfolios and add sport and events to his responsibilities.

Other changes to the portfolio include Felix Ellis focusing on consumer affairs, Jane Howlett including hospitality and small business, Roger Jaensch adding finance, mental health and wellbeing, and Madeleine Ogilvy including science and technology in a new portfolio of innovation, science and digital economy.

Jo Palmer will become Minister for Women and Domestic Violence Prevention, and Simon Wood will become Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing and Government Whip.

Simon Behrakis will become Parliamentary Secretary for Rockliffe, supporting Minister Ellis as Parliamentary Secretary for Housing and Planning, while Rob Fairs will take on the new role of Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Engagement.
