Jaguars Trade Superstar RB in a new scenario

Jaguars Trade Superstar RB in a new scenario

One of the biggest strengths of the Jacksonville Jaguars’ relatively anemic offense is their rushing attack. The rushing attack ranks 12th in the league at 124.3 yards per game and fourth in yards per game at 5.12.

The problem is with just about everything to do with the running game. The Jaguars are 2-5 and are mathematically eliminated from the playoff race. Many believe the Jaguars will sell well when the November 5 trade deadline arrives.

The fact that the Jaguars have two dynamic, talented running backs in Travis Etienne Jr. and standout star Tank Bigsby means they have room to potentially offer one to a new team. Theoretically.

Pro Football Focus came up with a scenario that takes the idea of sales to a whole other level. PFF’s Bradley Locker suggested that the Jaguars could trade star running back Travis Etienne to the Dallas Cowboys, a team lacking the run game (and just about everything else).

“The Jaguars have remained one of the most confused teams in the NFL over the past two years, and under Doug Pederson, things appear to have reached a boiling point,” Locker wrote. “What should be a playoff-caliber squad is now a disjointed team, and that likely means pieces will be moved around. Jacksonville ranks eighth in EPA rate per game, due in part to breakout Tank Bigsby, whose 82.5 rating ranks ninth among players with more than 50 carries, in turn could become expendable. Etienne didn’t look as effective in 2024. His offensive rating dropped 13 points and his elusiveness; ranks 42nd out of 50 backs with 30+ carries.

“However, the team that would love to add a player like Etienne is the Cowboys.” Dallas’ running game has been abysmal all season, ranking 29th in team rushing rating and second in rushing explosiveness in the NFL. The combination of Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott performed as expected, with neither player scoring above 69.0. Considering Etienne only has one more year left on his contract, the odds of Jacksonville trading him are higher than other players on this list. Jerry Jones would definitely join us.”

The Jaguars are unlikely to trade Etienne. On Sunday, Pederson discussed how important the inverse function is: Let’s clarify for now that Etienne is currently his No. 1 ball carrier.

“When Etienne comes back, he’s just as explosive, just as good, just as strong, and that’s still his job.”
