Sean Payton praises Bo Nix’s QB rushing abilities

Sean Payton praises Bo Nix’s QB rushing abilities

Bo Nix did not run the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine or pro day in Oregon this spring because he was recovering from a minor toe injury. Perhaps because his speed wasn’t measured before the draft, Nix’s speed this season has taken some fans and pundits by surprise.

The Denver Broncos’ rookie quarterback had a knack for avoiding potential sacks and turning them into big gains on the field. After a 33–10 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 7, Broncos coach Sean Payton praised Nix for his ability to protect the ball and extend plays.

“I made that comment earlier when we drafted him—when you watch him play and you don’t feel like you’re in danger,” Payton said after the win in New Orleans. “It’s hard to fire him. He has good ball placement. He plays with his feet a lot. It has great gaming capabilities.

“I am sure that you get the opportunity to play the game, which will allow you to be more aggressive. We wanted to go out tonight in this m.inset.

Nix’s rushing ability gives defenders another piece of offense to worry about and gives Payton another weapon to use in his scheme.

“I think he’s a little faster than we expected, even from a running standpoint,” Payton said Monday. “So it gives you some flexibility, especially on third down or in the red zone.”

Nix has rushed 47 times for 255 yards and three touchdowns in seven games this season. At this rate, the Knicks could very well finish their rookie season with 619 yards, which would rank second in franchise history behind Tim Tebow (who rushed for 660 yards in 2011).

Run, Bo, run!
