An installer received an electric shock while repairing a power line

A 24-year-old lineman was electrocuted after he accidentally touched a live wire in Barangay Dulig, Labrador, Pangasinan.

The victim was identified as Ronel Alfonso Sanchez Quijano, a lineman of the Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO).

Quijano was performing preventive maintenance on power lines at the Labrador substation on Oct. 19, 2024, when the accident occurred.

“Aksidenteng nahawakan niya ‘yung Primary Line ng Kuryente”, PLT. Ronaldo Aquino of the Labrador Police Department said.

The incident was captured on video by resident Judianne Santos Rico.

Rico said she heard a loud bang before she saw the man already hanging from the pole.

“Pagkadinig ko ng ‘puk,’ paglingon ko, ayun, nakalaylay na si kuya… nataranta ako. Chineck ko ‘yung ilaw, meron pa (kuryente),” she said.

Quijano suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

CENPELCO has formed a fact-finding committee to investigate the incident.

“If you name your trail, if you find information missing. Investigation into Jung continues.” This was announced by Rodrigo Corpuz, general director of the cooperative.

The investigation will determine why power was still running during the renovation work when the power should have been turned off.

CENPELCO also assured that it will provide assistance to the Quijano family.

As of this writing, the victim’s family has not yet released a statement.
