Burenmut: Woman barely escapes as landslide hits beach huts

A woman and her dog escaped after part of a rock fell onto beach huts.

Melissa Mahon, who filmed the incident on Saturday, said the woman was sitting with her dog in her hut in Bournemouth, Dorset, when the landslide occurred.

The video shows the beach hut being thrown forward several meters as the woman ran away from it.

The area was fenced off after a previous landslide on October 9.

Around 14 huts in Darley Chine were damaged in two collapses, causing one to topple.

Natalie Carr, who bought the shack next door last year, said it was “ruined”.

She said: “I’ve had a beach hut on this site for 18 years… and we’ve never had any problems with landslides in the past.

“My concern is that this is potentially the end of an era. People may not want to have a beach hut here if they are at risk.”

“Who wants to spend the day in a beach hut and potentially get swept away by a landslide. This is a huge concern.”

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council said it had cordoned off the area.

It said it would inform beach hut owners after an assessment.
