BEIJING (Reuters) – China hopes Japan will work with it to maintain a posture of “mutual cooperation and no threat” between the two countries, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Japan’s national security adviser Takeo Akiba on Monday.

During the phone call, Wang expressed hope that Japan’s new cabinet will bring a fresh perspective and that China-Japan relations can make a new beginning, state news agency Xinhua reported.

Both sides agreed to continue to use the mechanism of high-level political dialogue between China and Japan and maintain regular contacts.
