El Paso County approves new parental leave policy for employees

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – El Paso County Commissioners just approved a new parental leave policy for county employees. The district says it wants to provide a positive environment for employees.

“I am so proud of our county administrators for finding a way to get us there, and happy for our county family members,” said El Paso County Commissioner David Stout. “I started this conversation because it is important to have an environment where our employees can thrive and have careers in public service. This allows us to be competitive in attracting and retaining talent and ultimately better serve the community.”

In addition to the new parental leave policy, the district also offers retirement plans, health insurance, wellness programs and other forms of paid leave.

“These benefits play a critical role in attracting and retaining top talent, increasing employee productivity and engagement, and improving overall well-being,” a Stout spokesperson said Monday.

The policy provides employees with 160 hours of paid leave for eligible full-time employees, as well as 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected FMLA leave.
