The tension has not yet subsided from one of the most spectacular races in the history of sports – Formula 1.

The next twist in this never-ending story is that Lewis Hamilton has unfollowed every single person on his Instagram.

It all comes after the Briton lost this year’s title to rival Max Verstappen, who beat the Mercedes driver on the final lap of the season.

People already knew about Hamilton’s fury over the race after radio footage was released of the driver complaining to his team that something was wrong.

“It’s a rig, man,” Hamilton told his Mercedes team, who were probably as shocked as he was.

Confusion reigned when race director Michael Masi changed his mind about allowing several stalled cars past the safety car. This led to a head-to-head battle between Verstappen and Hamilton on the final lap. The Red Bull star, who had not won the title before this race, managed to overtake his opponent and win the title.

Hamilton hasn’t posted anything on social media since the Formula 1 title race, but he appears to have become disillusioned with the few people he followed. This has caused confusion as his intentions to do so are unclear and he remains silent on social media to his 26.3 million followers.

This only added to the questions surrounding Hamilton as he also missed the final race of the Formula 1 season in Paris, which could have resulted in penalties.

Mohamed Ben Sulayem, the newly elected FIA president, said: “Firstly, as a driver, I will feel emotional, but at the end of the day, rules are rules. So we will look at the side where technical rules will be used.”

Article 6.6 of the Formula One regulations states that the championship’s top three drivers must be present at the gala, although it is unclear what sanctions are available to the FIA.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem is keen to maintain control of the situation, adding: “If there is any violation, there is no forgiveness for it.”

This ruthless but fair approach will certainly mean Hamilton faces a fine.

Whether it happens this year or the new year, it’s fair to say the Briton has had a season to forget as questions and punishments loom larger. /Telegraph/
