UN unveils logo for International Year of Cooperatives 2025; MKA rejoices

The International Cooperative Alliance announced that the United Nations (UN) released the logo for the International Year of Cooperatives 2025 (IYC2025) on Monday. Organizations wishing to use it must follow the necessary instructions.

The logo is now available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese and Russian. The UN Committee for the Promotion and Development of Cooperatives (COPAC) plans to launch a dedicated IYC2025 website in November.

“The logo represents the collective work of people-centred businesses and the colors highlight how co-operatives contribute to the 2030 Agenda across their social, economic and environmental dimensions,” said Jeroen Douglas, CEO of the International Co-operative Alliance.

“We encourage co-ops around the world to share their pride in what co-ops are doing to build a better world and take advantage of the International Year of Co-operatives in 2025. The release of the logo is another milestone on our journey towards the official launch at our Global Cooperation Conference in New Delhi,” added Douglas.

The IYC2025 logo illustrates people around the world coming together to build a better world. It consists of three colors inspired by the graphic style of the Sustainable Development Goals: red represents society, blue represents the economy, and green represents the environment. Taken together, this represents the contribution of cooperatives to sustainable development.

The IYP 2025 theme, “Cooperatives Build a Better World,” was announced on June 19 and demonstrates the enduring global impact that cooperatives have everywhere. The theme emphasizes that the cooperation model is an important solution to overcome many global challenges and plays an important role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

“The International Year of Cooperatives 2025 is a time for both celebration and action,” said Li Junhua, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs at the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA).

“Co-ops embody a model of enterprise and community that values inclusion, empowerment and social sustainability as much as income and profit. Cooperatives have been and will continue to be a driving force for poverty eradication, women’s empowerment and social inclusion, while supporting full and productive employment and delivering sustainable economic growth. Let us together demonstrate the power of collaboration to create lasting, transformative change,” the UN spokesman said.
