PHOENIX – Two Phoenix police officers seen on body camera hit a deaf disabled man back in August were placed on paid administrative leave.

“Officer (Ben) Harris and Officer (Kyle) Sue are on paid administrative leave,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krinsky confirmed this on the evening of Monday, October 21.

News of the officers’ firing comes two months after the Aug. 19 incident happened nearby. 12th Street and Indian School Road.

The man they attacked, 34-year-old Tyrone McAlpine, was wrongly accused of being involved in the crime by someone across the street who pointed officers in his direction.

McAlpin is not only innocent of the crime for which he was arrested, but he is deaf and cannot hear their commands.

“These officers went wrong from the moment Officer Harris stepped out of his car,” said McAlpin’s attorney Jesse Showalter of Robbins Curtin Millea & Showalter, LLC. “You watch the video and you see his hands coming forward and he’s attacking Tyrone from the start of the fight. The number of times these two officers hit Tyrone in the head is extreme and outrageous and is something we thought was a thing of the past.”
