Brisbane Broncos five-eighth Ezra Mam will undergo “immediate professional treatment” after being involved in a car accident last week.

Last Friday afternoon, Ma’am was involved in a head-on collision with an Uber while driving without a license and allegedly failed a roadside drug test afterward.

“Ezra is extremely remorseful,” the player’s management said in a statement released Monday evening.

“He is concerned primarily for the other parties involved and understands the enormity of the current situation.”

Following the incident, Mam was taken to hospital for a head scan, while three Uber passengers suffered only minor injuries.

“He acknowledges that he has faced some personal challenges and, following these recent events, has taken the proactive step of seeking immediate professional help,” the statement said.

“We will continue to support him throughout this process and will not be making any further comment at this time.”

Mam’s contract with the Broncos, worth about $1 million per year, is now in jeopardy.

Brisbane chief executive Dave Donaghy spoke out on the matter on Monday, confirming he had been in contact with the remorseful mum.

“In my conversation with Ezra, he apologized for putting the club in this position and, of course, he was concerned about the well-being of the others involved in the accident,” he said.

“He is a young man, he is 21 years old.

“But unfortunately in this industry you have to grow up quickly.

“It’s a very privileged role.”

Donaghy, however, did not reveal the club’s position on the Mums’ future, keeping his cards close to his chest.

“We haven’t had a deep internal discussion,” he said.

“We want to make sure we have all the information so we can make the right decision.

“But of course from a club point of view we are very disappointed to find ourselves in this position.”

The Broncos coach also detailed a wider revamp of the club’s culture after finishing 12th in a season that saw Brisbane open as title favorites among the NRL’s top betting sites.

“We’re certainly clear that we want our program to be performance-oriented,” Donaghy said.

“We don’t want it to be a lifestyle thing, and we know it’s going to take a hell of a lot of hard work.”
