A brand new electronic road sign on the Tasmanian Highway in Hobart has been vandalized just days after it was installed.

The screen in Warrain is one of thirteen deployed across the city, showing real-time travel times, as well as information about accidents, weather changes and other incidents.

The sign was found Tuesday defaced with graffiti, with the word “angry” spray-painted in white on the front and black on the back.

A State Development Department spokesman said the graffiti would be cleaned up and any necessary repairs would be made.

“The cost will depend on the extent of the damage,” they told Pulse.

“This work will not delay the rollout of the sign program.”

A spokesman said extensive testing was still being carried out before the signs could be activated and they were likely to be turned on in stages.

“We will provide an update once the dates are confirmed.”

The screens are being installed along key routes including the Tasman Highway, Brooker Highway, South Arm Highway and Southern Exit.

They are expected to be fully installed by the end of the year.
