See the highlights of queer cinema past and present under the stars during a Melt on Screen session at the Dendy Powerhouse open-air cinema.

Melt On Screen is part of Melt Festival 2024, a citywide celebration of LGBTQIA+ artists and allies. The festival will take place from October 23 to November 10.

Dendy Powerhouse is an open air cinema under the stars at Brisbane Powerhouse. During Melt, you can watch a series of strange films on the huge outdoor Dendy Powerhouse screen, perched on custom 40ft shipping containers, through Dendy wireless headphones, while reclining on 350 outdoor lounge chairs.

The Melt on Screen line includes high-profile premieres and beloved classics.

Enjoy a special Q&A screening A man’s heart with a cast and crew Q&A on Saturday (Oct. 26), as well as a screening to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. after the first Brisbane River Pride Parade in November.

A man’s heart + questions and answers

Following the official opening of the Brisbane Powerhouse Meltdown Festival in New Farm Park, watch the film premiere at 4pm A man’s heart and an intimate Q&A with director David Cook and the cast.

The film tells the story of a young boxing prodigy who struggles to come to terms with his sexuality and must struggle between fulfilling his father’s dream and becoming his own man. Screens on Saturday, October 26th.

Paris is burning

Where did the mod come from and what exactly casts a shadow? Filmed over seven years, this landmark documentary features iconic fashionistas, drag queens and transwomen. It provides a powerful snapshot of the 1980s through the eyes of African Americans in New York City and the Latino drag ball scene of Harlem, a world in which homophobia, transphobia, racism, AIDS and poverty are rampant. Showing on Sunday, November 3rd.

Strange creatures

Strange creatures Australian drama in the spirit Nebraska And Little Miss Sunshine. The darkly humorous road trip film explores the value of family and the shortcomings of masculinity as two brothers travel across Australia to fulfill their mother’s dying wish. Showing on Wednesday, November 6th.

Love, lies, bleeding

An electric love story from director Rose Glass starring Kristen Stewart, Katie O’Brien and Ed Harris. Reclusive gym manager Lou falls hard for Jackie, an aspiring bodybuilder heading to Vegas in search of her dream. The women’s love sparks violence, drawing them deep into the web of the Lu crime family. Shows on Thursday, November 7th.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert – 30th Anniversary

Relive the unforgettable story of two drag queens and a transgender woman who travel to Alice Springs on the Priscilla bus.

Melta’s 30th anniversary Priscilla The screening will take place on Saturday, November 9th. It is hosted by Brisbane drag star Maxie-Bon and features a special performance from the team restoring Priscilla’s original bus. They will provide an update on Priscilla’s recovery and invite those in attendance to donate to efforts to restore Priscilla to her former glory.

The screening of Priscilla follows Brisbane’s first River Pride Parade on the same day. The Courtenay River Queen Act will lead the parade from the William Jolly Bridge to Brisbane Power Station.
