Routes, travel times, stations and more

In case you missed it, Sydney’s transport system has undergone a major upgrade, with the Sydney Metro extension now sweeping through the CBD – stretching 51.5 kilometers from Chatswood in the north to Sydenham in the city’s inner west. With six new futuristic stations (including one that houses main new dining room) and a fleet of 45 driverless trains, the new transport system is the largest public transport project in Australia. Here’s everything you need to know about Sydney’s bullet train (and how it went on day one).

What is Sydney Metro?

The Sydney Metro is a new transport system currently being built underneath the city. Featuring high-speed driverless trains, the system aims to significantly improve the ease and speed with which Sydney residents move around the city, passing under the harbor and carrying commuters. New Victoria Cross Station in North Sydney under the harbor to Barangaroo in three minutes. Other stops on the metro line include Castle Hill, Macquarie University and the major central business district hub at Martin Place.

With frequent and super-fast service, the Metro makes traveling around Sydney easier (and faster). Construction has caused and will continue to cause significant disruptions in our transport system (especially people on the Bankstown to Sydenham linewhich will close for at least twelve months from 30 September.), but based on what we know so far, it looks like it’s worth it.

When did the Sydney metro open?

The first stage of the Sydney Metro Northwest opened back in May 2019 – a high-speed section of the rail line running from Chatswood to Tallawong Station in Rose Hill.

The latest opening is the Sydney Metro line between Chatswood and Sydenham, which opened on Monday 19 August..

What are the operating hours of Sydney Metro?

During the week, trains run every four minutes during peak periods, every five minutes between peak periods and every ten minutes at other times. AND While we’d love to see it run all night, tube trains on the Sydney City Line will now run after midnight every night except Sunday, so you can hit the city’s best dance floors and late-night restaurants before flying home at record speed. . More information about Sydney Metro operating hours can be found here.

What stations are there on the Sydney Metro line?

The Sydney Metro line currently runs from Chatswood to Sydenham, zipping through the city and under the harbour, with new stations at Crow’s Nest, Victoria Cross, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street, Waterloo and new underground platforms in the Central District.. Following completion of the City and South West lines, the Bankstown to Sydenham train line will be closed for 12 months, with work to transform this section of the line commencing on Monday 30 September. The Sydenham to Bankstown line will mean a lot for passengers here.

In big news for Sydney’s western suburbs, the government has also confirmed – after years of uncertainty – that Sydney Metro West will really move forward. The timeline for this project is longer, with an estimated completion date of 2032, but it should mean big things for the city. Sydney Metro West is set to connect Sydney’s CBD with a vast new city center next to the new Sydney Airport, and the government plans to build even more affordable housing along the route.
