Sarah Greenhalgh juggles pregnancy and co-presenting 7NEWS in Brisbane

Greenhalgh recently spoke to 7News.com.au about her pregnancy.

“But once upon a time I just walked and walked and walked. Now it’s like, “No, you need to sit, you need to eat, and then you can do what you need to do.”

Reflecting on her future as a mother, she admits it still feels surreal:

“It’s so strange… it still hasn’t sunk in. I’m like, “Oh, that means I’m actually going to be in charge of the person.”

For women in television, balancing career and family life has historically presented significant challenges. Greenhalgh recognizes how far the industry has come, with previous generations of women often faced with difficult choices.

“I’ve spoken to so many incredible women in the industry who said they felt real pressure to get back from maternity leave and were afraid they would lose their jobs.”

“But I think they worked so hard that they were able to make a difference for us. Management has been incredibly supportive and the fact that they promoted me knowing that I was starting this job six months pregnant is a great sign of how far we have come.”

Sarah Greenhalgh officially began her co-host duties this week, joining 7NEWS Brisbane team together Max Futcher.

The change occurred after the departure of the former presenter Sharyn Ghidella earlier this year, marking a significant shift in the Brisbane-based network’s news lineup. Greenhalgh, a Brisbane native, returns home after several years working abroad as a foreign correspondent.

Her journalistic career was marked by notable achievements. More recently, Greenhalgh was a key figure in 7NEWS In the spotlightwhere her work was recognized at Walkley Awards, Kennedy AwardsAnd Queensland Clarion Awards. Her investigative reports, especially coverage of events Earthquakes in Turkey and Syria in 2023 led to Logie Prize nomination.

Speaking about her return to Brisbane, Greenhalgh expressed her enthusiasm for reuniting with long-time colleague Futcher:

“Max has been a colleague and comrade who has been incredibly supportive of me over the past 11 years, so I am sharing the news desk with him while returning home to my original self. 7NEWS Family is a huge thrill.”

In addition to her hosting duties, Greenhalgh remains committed to continuing her investigative journalism with 7NEWS In the spotlight. “Sharing people’s stories remains my greatest passion,” she said, “so as well as bringing the news to Queenslanders every night, I look forward to continuing to investigate with 7NEWS In the spotlight the team too.”

Max Futcherveteran Channel 7 having worked at the network for more than three decades, expressed excitement about Greenhalgh’s return, highlighting her distinguished career.

“I have known Sarah for many years and have great respect for her and what she has achieved in her career. I can’t wait for our viewers to get to know Sarah too, as we share the news that matters to them every weeknight.”

We are incredibly excited about the next chapter in her career, where she will not only co-host our must-see 6pm episode with Max, but will also become a newsroom leader championing journalism and investigations.”

Greenhalgh’s tenure Channel 7 spans more than a decade, starting as a helicopter traffic reporter in Brisbane and then moving through regional newsrooms in Mackay and Cairns.

She returned to Brisbane in 2013, covering a wide range of major news, from natural disasters to high-profile crimes. Her career took a dramatic turn in 2019 when she was appointed European correspondenta role in which she reported on global events including COVID-19 pandemic, Ukraine warand death Queen Elizabeth II.
