Field hockey team advances to SWC semi-finals – The Newtown Bee

The No. 3 team and host Newtown High School field hockey team scored in the second half to beat No. 6 New Fairfield 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the Southwest Conference tournament on Oct. 21.

Rachel Albrecht put Abby Ihlefeld’s shot into the goal less than a minute into the second half. The goal was scored by an assist from Ellenoir Sean.

The Nighthawks advance to the semifinals and will visit Np. 2 Immaculate of Danbury on Thursday, October 24 (game time to be announced). Flawless beat NHS 2-1 to end the regular season.

Newtown goalie Riley Alesevich made seven saves in the win over New Fairfield. The NHS received a stellar defense from Kayla Locke and Evelyn Shone. Reese Lischuk was strong in midfield and right winger Lily Ammerman was strong up top. Ellenoir Sean helped create many chances and had the ball throughout the game.
