North Melbourne wants to play one home game per season in Perth, prepares for Tasmania Devils to join league, plays Fremantle and West Coast, Optus Stadium, Blundstone Arena, latest news

As the arrival of Tasmania’s first AFL team approaches, their future rivals North Melbourne look set to move across the country for one home game a season.

The Kangaroos have played several home games per season at Hobart’s Blundstone Arena for many years but are now being forced to think outside the box with Tasmania’s impending arrival.

Seven’s Mitch Cleary broke the news on Tuesday evening, noting that a move to Western Australia could happen as soon as possible.

“There is currently a proposal under consideration by the AFL that would see the Kangaroos playing a home game in Perth as early as 2025,” Cleary said on Tuesday night.

“It’s all part of planning for life after Tasmania – the four games they currently play in Hobart will be reduced when the Devils (AFL) come in in 2028.

The Roos have won three of their last five games at Optus Stadium.

And in favor of the usual Perth home team, the move will likely mean one less game for either West Coast or Fremantle to travel; depending on who hosts North Melbourne in a particular season.

It’s not surprising, but fair, that both Perth teams have asked the AFL for an extra home game in the season – given their huge travel loads compared to their Victorian rivals.

“It would be a financial windfall and it would also help the Eagles or Dockers go one less game (in the season),” Cleary continued.

“North will play at least seven home games in Victoria; something that won’t fall off as part of it.”

The Kangaroos have won just 15 games over the past five seasons but have welcomed an influx of mature-aged recruits in the off-season, including Luke Parker, Caleb Daniel and Jack Darling.
