Fred again: British DJ welcomes Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas in interview with Nardwuar

Hugely successful DJ Fred has once again expressed his huge gratitude to Basil Zempilas in an interview with Nardwuar that has been viewed over 250,000 times.

The British entertainer was speaking to an eccentric journalist when he was asked how to convince the Lord Mayor of Perth to raise the sound level for his Langley Park show.

“Yeah, thanks to the Mayor of Perth, that’s when we did the last rave on our Australian tour a few months ago and it was wild,” Fred said again.

“We take the sound of all the shows very seriously and make it good enough, at the right level, with the right volume and everything.

“And in Perth the noise limit was set at 96 dB (decibel) A scale, which is not ideal.

“That was the only show where we had to make a concession, I thought, ‘Damn it, we just have to do it for this show.’

Fred then learned again that Mr. Zempilas would be attending his show and asked for a meeting with the mayor.

“(During the meeting) I said, ‘Before you go, just so you know we’re currently operating at a 96 dB limit, I was wondering if we could increase it by about two or three?’

“And he was like, ‘Oh, two or three!’ You can push it 15 feet.”

Fred joked again that Zempilas didn’t realize how loud the extra 15 dB would be and decided to increase it to 100.

“So say hi to the people of Perth, this was one of the funniest (sic) experiences.”

The 31-year-old music producer, who has worked with Ed Sheeran, Charlie xcx and Stormzy, brought the city to life as he performed his hits on March 30.

His epic four-hour set was enjoyed by the 35,000-strong crowd, including Basil Zempilas, who was seen enjoying the music with his wife.
