Child declared dead in Brazil moves hand into coffin, family horrified

A shocking incident has left a family in disbelief after their eight-month-old baby showed signs of life during his own funeral.

The girl, Kiara Chrislane de Moura dos Santos, was seen moving her arm in her coffin despite doctors having previously declared her dead.

The baby was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

According to Oriental Daily, Kiara was rushed to a hospital in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina in the early hours of October 19 with a viral infection.

Upon arrival, doctors determined that the baby was not breathing and her heart was not beating. She was declared dead shortly afterwards.The Daily Mail reports this.

Two hours later, her body was collected by the funeral director, and the family began burial that evening.

Baby’s fingers bend when touched

During the funeral, a relative reached out to touch the child’s hand and, to their shock, her fingers closed around theirs in response.

This brought the funeral to an abrupt halt as the family realized she was still alive.

Paramedics were quickly called and confirmed that Ciara had a pulse and was breathing. They also noted the absence of rigor mortis, which usually occurs six to eight hours after death.

She was rushed back to the hospital in an attempt to save her life.

Death is confirmed at the hospital for the second time

Upon returning to the hospital, medical staff attempted to resuscitate Ciara but were unsuccessful. Her heart stopped again and she was pronounced dead for a second time, less than 24 hours after the initial announcement.

Kiara’s father, Cristiano Santos, expressed his shock and grief over the ordeal. “We were already devastated. Then there was a little hope, but in the end this happened.”

The hospital is currently under investigation by Brazil’s specialized scientific police. He admitted that he first declared the child dead the first time and then confirmed her death again when she was brought back.

Correia-Pinto’s mayor’s office apologized to the family and promised a thorough investigation and report within 30 days.
