A month after grenade attack in Sector 10, NIA takes over investigation

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into the grenade attack in Chandigarh Police Sector 10. The transfer follows a communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in response to an NIA query.

The official confirmed: “NIA appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs with a request to transfer the case to it. The latter then reported the matter to the Chandigarh police. The case materials and evidence were transferred to the NIA.”

Suspects with links to Park are in the police net

  • CCTV footage shows the explosion and the autorickshaw; his driver Kuldeep held
  • Days later, key suspects Rohan Masih and Vishal were detained by the Punjab Police.
  • Their interrogation revealed that the attack was planned by Pakistan-based terrorist Rinda and US-based gangster Happy Passion.
  • Rohan from Passia village in Amritsar was hired to carry out the attack

It is noteworthy that the police had already prepared a charge sheet and planned to present it to the court this month. The possibility of dismissing the driver of the car was also considered, since his involvement in the case had not been proven. “We have handed over the matter to the NIA, which will further investigate,” an official source said.

The incident took place on September 11 when two assailants riding in an auto-rickshaw hurled a hand grenade at a house in Sector 10. While no casualties were reported, the window panes of the house were shattered in the explosion. The CCTV camera recorded the explosion and the auto-rickshaw, allowing the police to trace the vehicle. Its driver Kuldeep was arrested a few hours after the incident.

On the day of the incident, the NIA team also visited the explosion site. On the same day, a case was filed under sections 109, 351 (2), 33, 61 BNS, sections 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Explosives Act 1908, and sections 13 and 16 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. ) The act was registered in the 3rd police sector.

A few days later, the main suspects, Rohan Masih and Vishal, were arrested by the Punjab Police. Interrogation of the accused revealed that the attack was masterminded by ISI-backed Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh alias Rinda of Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and US-based gangster Harpreet Singh alias Happy Passia. Rohan, a resident of Passia village in Amritsar, was hired by Passia to carry out the attack.

According to police, the attack was aimed at retired Punjab Police officer Jaskirat Singh Chahal, who had previously stayed at the house. Sources said the attack was planned as revenge for the 1986 Nakodara incident in which four youths were killed in police firing. Chahal was a SHO at that time. The victims protested against the blasphemous incident. Chahal left the house after a previous attack linked to Rinda’s terror network was foiled.
