A MAN has died and another was injured in a horrific stabbing at a Scottish community centre.

Mercy teams urgently arrived at the Burnbank Center. Hamilton today at about 15.50 after reports of two wounded men.

A 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

And the 59-year-old man was given a blue light. Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow after suffering injuries.

His condition is still unknown.

Police investigations are ongoing.

A police cordon has been established and the road remains closed.

Two forensic tents and an ambulance were also seen at the scene this evening.

A local resident told The Scottish Sun: “Burnbank center is always busy, especially at this time when there are children from primary school nearby.

“We heard that this was a targeted attack and not a random one. But it’s still terrible, especially if the two men turn out to be closely related.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “At approximately 3.50pm on Monday 21 October 2024, we received a report of two men injured at Burnbank Center in Hamilton.

“The 36-year-old man died on the spot, the 59-year-old man was taken to hospital.

“Officers remain in the area and inquiries continue to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.

“Whitehill Road and Purdy Street are closed until noon tomorrow, with access restricted to residents only.

“Shop access is currently closed and people are asked to avoid the area.”
